Excerpt The purpose of this article is to reproduce the transliteration of a 19th century Romanian manuscript written with Cyrillic characters, more precisely a Romanian translation of an imaginary speech by 4th century Greek rhetor Libanius (Declamation no. 26 – the speech delivered in front of a city council by a man who wants to be allowed to commit suicide in order to escape from his much too talkative wife). Based on a Greek annotation on the cover of the manuscript (a list of nouns), it may be assumed, but not concluded, that the translation was made from Greek. Also, there is no information regarding the author of the translation. What makes the manuscript noteworthy is the fact that it represents the only Romanian translation of a text by Libanius known so far.
