Excerpt | The objective of this article is to draw the focus of both the specialized audience and the general public to a cultural heritage object and historical monument, specifically a pendant. This pendant represents a religious iconography that has evolved over centuries, capturing the essence of its era. The Holy Trinity Church in Popeşti was founded by a dignitary of Şerban Cantacuzino and later of Constantin Brâncoveanu, as mentioned in the inscription of the place of worship, Cârstea Popescu the Treasurer. The triptych, constructed as a bronze medallion, comprises three icons that are relatively well-preserved, aside from the nails that once connected the tripartite elements. These components consist of the Holy Mother of God, The Virgin, represented as Hodighitria, the Holy Kerchief, and the Saints Serghie and Varlaam, as indicated by the inscription located in the upper register. It is highly probable that the triptych was originally included in the funerary inventory, considering that the present-day church is encompassed by a cemetery that undoubtedly has its origins in the establishment of the place of worship. Remarkably, this cemetery remains in use and continues to serve as the final resting place for the local community. |
