Excerpt | The article analyzes the Special Fund Deposit of the National Museum of History of Romania, the collection of gifts received from abroad and from the whole country by the couple Nicolae and Elena Ceauşescu in the period 1965- 1989. The display of common gifts, part of the protocol of bilateral relations at the level of heads of state, was transformed by the propaganda apparatus of the communist regime in Romania, into a show of “trophies” and “symbols of international appreciation” and “immeasurable love of the people” of Romanians for its leader. The cult of personality of Nicolae Ceauşescu was built with the help of the exhibition “Homage”, and the study of the pieces of this exhibition explains to researchers and the general public how this ideological and propagandistic construction was possible. |
