| Abstract | The article briefly presents the political, economic and cultural history of the German minority from Basarabia, starting with 1814, when German colonists were first brought to the south of the province by the Russian authorities (Basarabia had been annexed by Russia in 1812) until 1940, when most of the German population was forced to leave Basarabia following the conclusion of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact. |
